Getting started

How helg works

Capture is cheap, decision is expensive — so helg separates them. During the week, drop tasks in fast — a few typed words. On your pass day, run the pass, then openThis week: a budget bar, three columns, and drag. You commit only what realistically fits the hours you have.

Capturing a task

In the web app, hit Capture (or press C) and give it a name — it’s kept exactly as you typed it — plus a detail if that helps. Add a deadline, cost estimate, steps, notes, or attachments later from the task’s page.

Deciding what happens to it

Captures land in Inbox (under Lists) and wait — nothing becomes a commitment on its own. Hit Run a pass there to go through them one at a time: plan it for this week or for today, hand it to someone, push it to Later, or let it go.

This week and its budget

The budget bar compares the hours you’ve committed against a realistic week (11 hours by default — tunable in You → Household & the pass). When you over-promise, you’ll see it before the week’s gone. Today is a separate lens: whatever’s late or due today, what’s dated in the days ahead, and what you’ve planned for this week.

The hours count what you’ve planned for this week. Something you’ve planned for a day in a later week is listed beside the figure and counted when its week comes. Dragging a task onto a day plans it for that day; the calendar also shows any step inside a task that has a date of its own, and whose task it is.

Rather not count hours at all? Switch Weekly hours budget off in You → Household & the pass. The board keeps its lanes, its days and each task’s size, and simply stops adding them up. Your hours are kept for if you switch it back on.

Calendar subscription

Putting deadlines on your calendar

Go to You → Calendar feed and create your feed. You’ll get a private subscription URL that works in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, and Outlook. In Apple Calendar, use the Subscribe in Apple Calendar link (or File → New Calendar Subscription and paste the URL). Choose which dates appear — due dates, start-by dates, steps with a time, and buy-list “running low” — with the switches under What it includes.

“No valid events were found to add to your calendar”

That message appears when a calendar app tries to import the feed as a one-time file instead of subscribing to it. Use the Subscribe flow (the webcal button or New Calendar Subscription) so it stays updated automatically.

Keeping the feed private & resetting it

Anyone with your feed URL can see the deadlines it exposes, so keep it private. If it leaks, click Reset the link on the Calendar feed page to issue a new URL (old subscriptions stop working). Turn the feed off ends it entirely.

Family & co-pilot

Inviting people

The household head can invite members from You → Family & seats. Members send you tasks but see only what they’ve sent — never your board. A co-pilot is a trusted member you grant extra help with (assigning, scheduling, budgeting, capturing).

Account & sign-in

Signing in

helg is passwordless. Enter your email for a one-time magic link, or use Continue with Apple or Google. Links expire quickly and are single-use.

Creating an account

There’s no separate sign-up form. The first time you sign in — by email link, Apple, or Google — your account is created, and helg asks for your name and time zone. A passkey can’t create an account: you add one afterwards, in You → Security & devices, and sign in with it from then on.

I didn’t get my sign-in link

Check spam, confirm the address, and request another from the sign-in page. Links can take a minute to arrive. Still nothing? Contact us.

Sign-in alerts & sessions

We email you when your account is signed into from a device or network that’s new to it, with the time, location, and device. Review and revoke active sessions in You → Security & devices.

Billing

Trial, plans, and seats

Solo is free and stays free. A new account also starts with a 14-day trial of the family plan, and no card is needed for it. The family plan is US$14 a month for 4 people total, including you; each extra seat is US$3.50 a month, up to 12 people, and a pending invite holds a seat. Subscribe during the trial and you keep the days you have left — nothing is charged until it ends. See pricing for the details.

Managing or cancelling

Open You → Plan & billing to update your card, see invoices, or cancel through the Stripe customer portal. Cancelling stops future renewals at the end of the period. Receipts are emailed automatically after each payment.
